Summer Holiday Geology & Dinosaur Walks

southbay1 (1)

This summer we are running some slightly longer geology walks, one north of Scarborough and one south of the Town. These trips are ideal for people wanting to spend a bit more time on the coast, but we do not assume any prior knowledge of geology and the trips are ideal for beginners.

Scalby Bay Dinosaur Walk This four hour long walk will visit some of the 165 million year old dinosaur footprints dating back to the Jurassic that have led to the coast being known as the Dinosaur Coast.

As this is a longer walk involving a  steep descent to the beach, it may not be suitable for under 10’s, so no charge is made for them, although they are of course welcome to come with a family group. Sensible footwear and clothing is essential along with drinks and food as required.

Meet by the footbridge near the Old Scalby Mills pub (near the Sealife Centre in North Bay, Scarborough).

Monday 25 August, 10am start.

South Bay Geology Walk This four hour long walk will visit both Jurassic rocks as well as more recent geological features such as the Holbeck Hall landslip. We will find loose fossils on the beach and will also see dinosaur footprints.

As this is a longer walk involving both cliff-top paths and rocky beaches, it may not be suitable for under 10’s, so no charge is made for them, although they are of course welcome to come with a family group. Sensible footwear and clothing is essential along with drinks and food as required.

Meet outside Scarborough Spa.

Monday 18 at 2pm  and Monday 1 September at 1oam.
